I just wanted to write about travel, that’s it. But I’m compelled to write this as apparently no journalists are addressing the true DOGE agenda.
BACKGROUND
On average, the US spends around $800 billion on government contracts, this is decent chunk of the federal budget. But US only spends less than $300 billion on employee compensation. (And in recent years, it has been trending to less employee pay and more money going towards government contracts.)
Everyone assumes DOGE is ignoring government contracts in the search for overspending because Elon Musk has government contracts, but that is only part of the problem.
US government contracts are notoriously known for the US overpaying. To name a few from just last year, US overpaid 8,000% for soap dispensers to Boeing, Dell settled on paying $2.3 million for what it overcharged US gov. and RTX (formerly Raytheon) settled on $950 million to resolve bribery and fraud claims.
Logically, if they looking for waste, DOGE would go after the government contracts that everyone knows we pay way too much for and are a larger part of the budget, and not start with government employees that are only 6% of the federal budget.

DOGE is firing the maximum amount of employees that it legally can. Normally when the US government has cutbacks, each department decides who is least important and fires them. In a normal world, in government, each individual department knows who is mission critical and who isn’t, people on the ground day to day know the most important and least important roles, not some African-Canadian foreign national who has never worked in the US government. This would apply even in companies, and corporations, the actual company or department would have the final say in who gets fired, not some outside consultant.
But reckless and indiscriminate firing is the whole point. The point isn’t to save money. If it was to save money, US wouldn’t be spending, on average, $10 million a week for DOGE, or over $520 million a year to “save money.” DOGE is only 100 employees, yet somehow they need $100,000 each per WEEK?
DOGE employees are the most ludicrously paid employees of all Federal government. On average, they are getting paid, or spending, in 1 month what the US president makes in a year. And most are unqualified for the jobs they have. Many were Tesla interns and under the age of 25, not veteran forensic accountants. In fact the ones allegedly doing forensic accounting don’t even have a background in that field.
DOGE is going after government employees (even thought they are one of the smallest portions of government spending) to render ineffective each department it is targeting. Once an agency is both defunded and also robbed of critical employees, it will not longer be able to function, and that is the whole point.
Although everyone thinks Trump is an idiot and Musk is tripping nonstop on Ketamine, it’s unlikely that they accidentally fired the most important people in multiple departments. The people tracking nuclear weapons that travel in US airspace and on US interstates, they seem like important people, even 20 year old interns would know what. The people tracking bird flu during a current outbreak, they seem like important people, even an intern would recognize that and bring it to someone’s attention. FAA is already short-staffed, so firing 1 in 10 people there seems like a dangerous move, anyone could see that.
But chaos is the point. Destabilization is the point. Because once all these government departments are unable to function, then there is the argument to privatize them. Nevermind that the people arguing to fix them will be the same ones that broke them. Americans have proven they can’t seem to remember things past a few new headlines.
So this is why Elon Musk is recklessly steam rolling his way through government departments. Not to protect his current government contracts, but to secure more government contracts in the future. His current government contracts are secure, Trump is in office. No, this is about securing more contracts.
And worth mentioning, Musk has regularly complained about Tesla being a public company because he is expected to be transparent. Government agencies are also expected to be transparent.
But private companies? Private contractors? Not so much. And this is where the danger lies. Not just that outsourcing or privatizing government agencies will cost the US more, but the current administration or whoever owns the company that takes over current agencies will be allowed to get away with more with zero oversight. And zero accountability to tax payers.

In addition to all the future problems that DOGE is creating. Elon’s request for all government employees to e-mail a summary of what they are working on is probably the biggest threat to national security we have ever seen. And the fact that no news outlets are mentioning this is quite frankly terrifying.
The US military uses compartmentalization to limit access to information and to keep tasks and missions secret. Most individuals work on their individual task or their department’s task without the knowledge of what the bigger project is, and this is by design, so you have fewer people who could leak information to our enemies.
WHY THIS IS A HUGE DEAL:
If every federal employee emails what they are working on and Elon puts it in AI to summarize, he can know every single military strategy and top secret project that the US has in the works and sell it to the highest bidder.
Even the US president doesn’t know everything every department is doing. One, because he’s considered a temporary employee and two, usually elected officials want plausible deniability. Usually presidents don’t want to know everything the government is doing. And most of the people working on top secret projects don’t even know all the details of their own top secret project.
Elon Musk is not an elected official, nor does he hold a security clearance for each of the departments he is looking into. As just stated, the US uses comparmentalization to protect information. So even when a person gets security clearance, they get clearance for their compartment. The US doesn’t issue security clearances for everything.
It’s like if you check in a hotel and get a room key and have access to that hotel and your room, that is what a security clearance is. Your room key doesn’t provide you access to every room in that hotel. Your room key doesn’t provide you access to every hotel in town and every room in town. You are cleared to access a certain area with a security clearance, and like hotel room keys, security clearances are for a set amount of time.
So even if Elon had a security clearance in the past, it doesn’t mean he still has it. He would need to be cleared again. And cleared specifically for the departments or agencies that he is trying to access. And according to publicly available information, DOGE employees do not have security clearances.
People need to stop protesting the fact that Elon is unelected, and start protesting the fact that he’s unvetted. Jared Kushner was also unelected and unvetted, and there he was during the last Trump administration, slowly grifting. Jared seems like a lap kitten compared to Elon, at least Jared had the decency to take money from foreign nationals, not US taxpayers.
People should be concerned about Elon Musk and DOGE having access to their address, social security numbers and banking information, yes, that information has value, but that’s small change. Unless you have $2 billion in a checking account that the IRS sends refunds to, you should be okay.
The big money is in selling state secrets, just ask Jared Kushner about his $2 billion from Saudi Prince for a private equity firm, even though his background was in failed real estate developments, not private equity. Vanity Fair gave Jared Kushner the title of World’s Worst Real Estate Developer. (The same Saudi Prince who reportedly killed a journalist during Trump administration.)
Why am I talking about Jared Kushner? Because the protests against Elon Musk are for the wrong reasons. Trump is legally allowed to have advisors. Yes, it’s weird that the has an advisor that regularly does co-interviews with him. Yes it’s odd that his advisor brings his child to official meetings. Yes, it’s weird that his advisor wears sunglasses during interviews and allegedly is hitting Ketamine hard. But Trump having Elon as an advisor is perfectly legal.
Americans need to start protesting the more sinister problems with DOGE. They are unvetted, and are asking for access to literally everything in the US government. They are asking for all the information that the US has. They are requesting information that never before has any US president had. While the US president is “Commander In Chief” the president is not in the operational chain of command for military operations, nor does he have unchecked power.
